Is it just a load of crap?

Is it worth adding anything to the soil when planting? Surely soil contains all a plant needs to grow, so why waste money and add anything? I believe it is worth adding some goodness, and I’m all in favour of cow manure.
What is it about gardeners and manure? They love to talk about it, be it chook, horse or cow. There’s nothing crappy about manure, and composted manure is about the best product you can add to your garden to help your plants.
We all want our plants to grow fast. We want them to thrive, survive and do their job. If you give them a great start in life, they will reward you. Why buy plants and plant them poorly? Give them the best; dig some composted cow manure into the soil and watch them perform. I certainly don’t want to stand around in manure but plants seem thrive on it.
Composted cow manure adds structure and body to your soil. It improves all soils, be them clay, poorly drained or sandy. Your plants grow in soil, so it’s pretty important stuff. Great soil produces great plants. It’s so simple.
Plant your plants with cow manure. Your plants will grow faster, be healthier, and give you more of what you want; more flowers, fruit or foliage. Your plants will be more able to combat disease and insect attack, and will be green and lush and bursting with health. Your neighbour’s plants will be crying: “I want what she’s having.” It’s that good.
Make sure you buy only the best cow manure. Manure quality can vary, and non composted manure can burn your plants instead of thrill them. Choose only premium organic, and make sure it’s aged and composted. Be generous, and use the pot as a guide. A plant in a 20cm pot (that’s the old 8”) needs at least a 20cm pot full of cow manure added to the hole, and you can double this amount if you feel your soil is poor or compacted. If you’re still unconvinced do an experiment; plant half of your next bed with cow manure and the other half without. You’ll soon see what we’re crapping on about.
