This Month in your garden

Snails

Snails are out and about having a great time at your expense munching away on your newly planted seedlings or anything young. Sprinkle some Multiguard around wherever you suspect snails might be, to protect your lovely plants. Multiguard is safe to use if you have pets or even wild birds or lizards and won’t harm them unless they eat a very large amount. Watch out, especially around your newly planted vege and flower seedlings, but also if you have Pittosporums or Choisyas, very tasty to snails.

Aphids

Aphids are about now. See the Garden Doctor for more on Aphids.

Fertilizing

It’s a great time to fertilize your whole garden after all the rain. Chuck it about paying particular attention to roses, fruit trees, camellias, buxus and gardenias. Your plants will grow faster and perform better with fertilizer.

Mulching

Mulching your garden is great physical activity, so do it now . Any mulch is good, but I love Coco mulch. It looks fantastic, slows down the weeds and keeps in the moisture. Mulching your garden means less work! Remember to fertilize when you mulch, 5 in 1 pellets are perfect.

It's Pansy time
It's Pansy time

The kids are back at school, so hopefully that means more gardening time. Your Petunias are probably looking half drowned after all the wonderful rain so remove them and plant some Pansies and Sweet peas. They love sun, and there’s lots of colours to tempt you. Don’t forget the fertilizer and snail bait and they will love you.
